Heffez Neurosurgical Associates Staff

Robert Gottschalk, BA, BSN/RNFA, ND/FNP
Nurse Practitioner

I have been working with Dr. Heffez for almost four years now. I feel that we have just begun to scratch the surface of the work ahead in that short amount of time. I have been working in the healthcare field for many years, in a variety of different roles. I’ve always been fascinated by the brain and the nervous system. I began my studies at University of Illinois in Chicago earning a B.A. in Psychology with an emphasis in physiological psychology. After a short stint in basic scientific research, I decided to return to school, earning an RN/BSN from Northwestern University here in Chicago. Nursing afforded me the luxury of being able to spend weekdays with my children while they were young, and work offshifts and weekends. Once they were in school I returned to my studies, this time obtaining my Doctorate in Family and Community Health from Rush University, as well as becoming certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

The widespread disabling nature of the symptoms that patients present to us with continues to challenge and intrigue me. I have developed a keen interest in the dysautonomias, an area which continues to be poorly understood by many practitioners, as well as the modalities used by Practitioners of Oriental Medicine. I have begun further studies once more, this time pursuing a Masters in Oriental Medicine.
